freelance artist & master ivory carver
Inspired by music, literature, and especially my deep connection to nature, I translate impressions, experiences, and inspirations into my artwork. In my studio, sculptures, objects, paintings, and jewelry emerge from the initial sketch to the final, independent creation.
The main themes here are the search for meaning and self-knowledge, the transience of being, as well as physical and spiritual transformation.
Depending on the design, I select the appropriate material based on its properties, structure, form, and color, ensuring it does justice to the individual piece.
I use bone, wood, wool, mammoth ivory, clay, metal, and antler.
In contrast to the homogeneous materials of modern times, these natural materials are entirely organic.
The pieces I work with have grown organically; they sometimes exhibit tension, cracks, discoloration, or gnarled shapes, bearing the marks of life, time, and nature itself.
Combining traditional carving techniques, ancient modeling methods, and experimental processing of various natural materials, I create my pieces, allowing aesthetic structures to emerge—sometimes rough, sometimes delicate, sometimes already in the process of dissolution.
The diverse surfaces, ranging from velvety smooth to fire-torn, with their dynamic lines and organic forms, reflect emotions and thoughts, movement and stillness, creating contrasts and uniting opposites.
